Below you will find a newspaper clipping announcing the formation of the EAWA. There is some mystery as to whether the year was 1961, as was written in ink at the top. The writer states that meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month, and then later in the article, that the next meeting will be August 3. Well, August 3, 1961, was a Thursday. Was that a typing error? August 3, 1960, was a Wednesday.
Soon into reading the first article below you will see the name “Charles B. Ellsworth.” The club is named in his honor. (No, not the town of Ellsworth … although we are very fond of the town too!) Ellsworth is most well-known for his role is transmitting the message that the Titanic was sinking. You can read more about this and his life-long love of radio communications here.
Following the article below, you will find the certificate awarded to the EAWA in 1962 for affiliation with the American Radio Relay League. Finally, the last item on this page is the text of an award presented to the club to honor 60 years of affiliation. The list of accomplishments there is a summary of many of the clubs most outstanding accomplishments.
